This is an interesting post from the man himself when it comes to content lockers -
My own personal feelings aside, I find the stance that Google takes to be pretty hypocritical. They love to send out mixed messages and are constantly doubling back on what they said earlier, making it incredibly difficult for anyone to achieve consistency the the SEO space.
Best advice I can give is to look elsewhere for traffic if at all possible.
I just wanted to throw in a quick link to this thread I found over on BHW about how to put a locker on your blogger blogs - it may be useful to some of you out there :]
So I just picked up Content Lock Pro 2.1 (available here) from Thomas and Bryan and I have to say - I am totally blown away. This is probably the best content locker I have used to date. I have been content locking since sometime around 2009 so I have seen products come and go, but this is the first one I have seen that really nailed the execution.
First let's take a look at the features:
Offer rotation
2-click install
Auto-blanks referrer
Geo targeting
Postback
Skinnable/custom templates (over 100 pre-made to chose from)
Web-based UI
Killer support team (no joke - I have talked to the owners in person more than once)
If you need to see for yourself here is a video the guys have put together:
(You can also take a look at this thread over on BHW to get a feel for what people are saying about it)
That's quite the laundry list to chose from. Even with all the technical features though I still think the best part for a lot of new people is going to be the support setup that Bryan and Thomas run. They really want to see you succeed and have made it super easy to get help.
One thing to keep in mind though is that CLP does require your host to have PHP 5.3, so make sure you check before dropping the cash on a content locker. The officially supported list of hosts is as follows:
Hostgator
Site5
DreamHost
x10 Hosting
Note however that a more hosts than this support PHP 5.3 - you can follow these instructions if you want to check before buying.
Now on to some case studies -
For the first site, I chose one of niche sites in the entertainment vertical. I have had this site for maybe six months and it has been a pretty solid performer, bringing in maybe $150-$200 per day.
Before the test I had another content locker on it that I had written myself and thrown together, a totally custom setup that in all honestly was kind of shitty. I'm not the best PHP coder to begin with and I was in a hurry to get something on the site to start bringing in some cash.
In any case, after the move to CLP 2.1 profits were up by about 50%, in the $300-$350 dollar per day range. I wasn't really sure as to why at first, but after doing some code analysis I found that I had a bug that was only causing it locker to show sporadically
So while the increased profits were only marginally attributable to CLP 2.1, I would have never found the bug otherwise. A net gain in my book!
For the second site, I chose one in the health and beauty niche that didn't have any type of content locker at all. This I felt was more representative of what you will probably be doing with your site.
Having run the site for about a year, the baseline stats were anywhere from $20-$30 a day on average. Nothing groundbreaking but still plenty of room for improvement.
So, after doing some quick modifications to the site layout and content funnel, and throwing CLP on their, it was time to wait. This is usually the hardest part since you expect to see results right away, but the best thing to do is find another project to work on for a week and do the best you can to not to camp out on your stats.
So I made it about five days without looking... and when I finally broke down and checked my stats I couldn't believe the results.
Total income was up to $280/day average! (that's a 1400% increase for those of you keeping track)
Granted I had done some work to up the traffic over this period but the total increase in traffic volume was only 7.8%, not nearly enough to account for the dramatic spike in income.
I think that is probably the icing on the cake to be honest, I could ramble on for a few more hours about features and all that but the proof is really in the numbers.
So - head on over to the CLP website and pick it up today! (your bank account will thank you)
